Is the H1N1 vaccine safe?

One of the most talked about topics in the U.S. is the H1N1 virus (also known as Swine Flu). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have reported that over 22 million doses of the vaccine are available, yet there are still long lines to get the virus. Reports show that about 50% of Americans want to get the vaccine.
People who have been encouraged to get the vaccine are women who are pregnant, children, and those with immune deficiencies.
However, not all doctors are on the bandwagon as far as receiving the vaccine. A recent informal poll shows that about 1 out of 10 doctors are against the vaccine. Any physician will tell you that in medicine, nothing is 100% safe…there are risks.
In the 1970’s, a swine flu vaccine caused many GBS cases in people who took the vaccine. The risks of developing GBS has kept many people from getting the vaccine and could also be the reason why there has been some false stories about deaths resulting from the H1N1 vaccine. While there have been reported deaths from the virus, there hasn’t been a single death reported concerning the vaccine.
There are people out there who feel that there is a conspiracy going on about the vaccine and that the government is keeping something from us. That the vaccine isn’t safe. If you are concerned , the best thing to do is to simply talk to your doctor about it. He or she will be able to give you information about it and help you make the best decision .

Bob Griese NASCAR comment

Today, ESPN/ ABC college football analyst Bob Griese made a comment that may have offended a few people. During the Ohio State/ Minnesota football game, there was a promo for the NASCAR race on Sunday being broadcast on ABC. One of the drivers in the race is Juan Carlos Montoya. As a graphic showing the top 5 drivers was shown, fellow commentator Chris Spielman asked “Where is Montoya?” to which Griese replied “He’s out having a taco.” Montoya had dropped out of the top 5 due to a poor performance at Charlotte.
Griese later apologized for his comment. Once as the game was ending and again at halftime of the Florida/Mississippi State football game. “Earlier today on out game, I made a comment regarding Juan Pablo Montoya as part of a NASCAR promo. It was regrettable and I should not have said it. I really enjoy NASCAR and I follow it closely and would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Juan, NASCAR and everyone else who heard my comment,” he said.
ESPN said that the remark was uncalled for. Could this bad joke cost Griese his analyst job? I guess we’ll see. Griese did seem very apologetic but sometimes once something is said, you can’t take it back. This could possibly tarnish the reputation of the former pro football quarterback and Hall Of Famer from the Miami Dolphins.
