Today, ESPN/ ABC college football analyst Bob Griese made a comment that may have offended a few people. During the Ohio State/ Minnesota football game, there was a promo for the NASCAR race on Sunday being broadcast on ABC. One of the drivers in the race is Juan Carlos Montoya. As a graphic showing the top 5 drivers was shown, fellow commentator Chris Spielman asked “Where is Montoya?” to which Griese replied “He’s out having a taco.” Montoya had dropped out of the top 5 due to a poor performance at Charlotte.
Griese later apologized for his comment. Once as the game was ending and again at halftime of the Florida/Mississippi State football game. “Earlier today on out game, I made a comment regarding Juan Pablo Montoya as part of a NASCAR promo. It was regrettable and I should not have said it. I really enjoy NASCAR and I follow it closely and would like to take this opportunity to apologize to Juan, NASCAR and everyone else who heard my comment,” he said.
ESPN said that the remark was uncalled for. Could this bad joke cost Griese his analyst job? I guess we’ll see. Griese did seem very apologetic but sometimes once something is said, you can’t take it back. This could possibly tarnish the reputation of the former pro football quarterback and Hall Of Famer from the Miami Dolphins.
